Engineering technology with a Drafting & Design Specialization focuses on mechanical design, material application, and properties. Experiences in manufacturing processes such as injection moulding and small lot casting operations are supported by instruction in AutoCad, Unigraphics CAD, including virtual tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), surface and assembly modelling.

Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CAD or CADD) technicians use special computer software programs to create drawings and sketches. They may draw objects ranging from simple parts to complex building designs or even small electronics components.

The Plastics Engineering Technology option in the Advanced Manufacturing Associate of Applied Science program provides training in the plastics industry, including theory and hands-on applications. Students are given practical instruction applicable to materials, processing, and design engineering.

The course is delivered through a range of units where the emphasis is upon a practical approach to learning covering; both generic engineering principles as well as specific mechanical, electrical, electronic and managerial subjects.

MITT’s Industrial Welding certificate program helps students build a strong foundation of the knowledge and skills required to design and build products by cutting and joining materials using ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Students work independently or in teams using current welding and fabrication equipment to complete projects in a learning environment that simulates an industrial welding shop. To complement their technical skills with the employability and essential skills employers demand, all students participate in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops.
