Key Summary

About : The Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technician – Design focuses on equipping students with the skills necessary for design roles in mechanical engineering. Students will cover topics such as computer-aided design (CAD), engineering principles, and project management within a span of three years. This program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience to prepare graduates for industry demands.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue careers as mechanical design technicians, CAD drafters, or engineering project coordinators. The comprehensive training allows for opportunities in various sectors, including manufacturing, construction, and product development. With experience, professionals may advance to leadership or specialized roles in engineering projects.

Centennial College's Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design program offers courses that combine engineering theory and practice, focusing on the design and development of various mechanical devices and equipment. You gain a thorough grounding in engineering sciences and skills, including computer-assisted drafting and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) as used in the industry.

About one-quarter of the time in this advanced diploma engineering program is spent on project work. The projects simulate workplace assignments while relating classroom theory to the actual design, manufacture, and testing of projects.

In addition, this program will introduce you to finite element analysis using ANSYS software.

Program Highlights

  • In the Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design program, you learn through machine shop operation, tool design, and computer numerical control programming.
  • The program, which offers a 60-40 balance between theory and practice, includes instruction in industry-current computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-aided analysis (CAE) software as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and Mastercam.
  • The project-driven program simulates actual workplace assignments and even gives you practical experience in designing, building, and testing an original piece of equipment.
  • State-of-the-art mechanical engineering lab includes CAD/CAM equipment, thermodynamic fluid power testing modules, and tensile, hardness, and impact testers.
