This course focuses on the societal and political dimensions of the energy transition, while taking into account the physical and technical limitations of the energy system, as well as earth’s environmental boundaries. You will be equipped with a comprehensive overview of the global energy transition’s needs, its challenges and solutions, and the trade-offs generated by different (policy) options.

The Energy Storage Integration - Vehicles, Renewables, and the Grid course will describe the background of existing energy storage solutions on the electric grid and in vehicles with a primary focus on batteries and electrochemical storage. It will discuss the operating characteristics, cost, and efficiency of these technologies and how tradeoff decisions can be made.

The objective of the training is to provide students with expertise in the energy sector and decarbonization issues. Sufficient knowledge of the sector to measure the impacts of technological innovation on the entire energy system, and to master the conversion systems as well as the methods, tools and criteria on which decisions are made. This training targets students planning a research career after preparing a thesis.

A wind turbine technician, also known as a Wind Tech, is a person who is specially trained to prevent wind turbines from malfunctioning or stopping completely. This is done by providing wind farms with routine inspections, troubleshooting any problems, and repairing the wind turbines when necessary.
