This program is designed to provide participants with specific skills for successful employment as a Building Inspector. Participants will gain theoretical and hands on knowledge required for inspection work with Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC), Indian & Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), and First Nations organizations to inspect new house construction and renovations on BC reserves.

Canadore has one of the largest carpentry labs in Ontario with over 14,000 sq. ft. of training space – large enough to have two full-size houses built within its walls. In this program you will gain the hands-on skills needed to work in the growing building construction industry. You will learn how to operate the tools and equipment of the trade, layout and construct wood frame structures, apply interior and exterior finishes, and much more.

Program Description The Ontario Building Code sets out the minimum safety requirements regarding public health, fire protection, and structural sufficiency. This program has been developed to assist those students that enter the design, inspection, or construction industry to interpret and apply code requirements correctly. The Building Inspection Technician Program is a two-year program that includes academic, technical, and code skills. Along with a foundation of building code courses, the placement component will be an integral feature of the program. Career Opportunities Students graduating from this program may find employment opportunities with municipalities overseeing various code compliance.

Certificate in Building Electricity objective is to provide basic theoretical and practical knowledge enabling the calculation of electricity systems in buildings and the choice of devices. Promote the development of professional skills likely to make the candidate capable of carrying out their task effectively and accessing higher positions in this field.

The Building Systems Technician program trains students to maintain and repair complex systems in commercial and institutional buildings, including energy-efficient boilers and HVAC systems. This in-demand career requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in teams.

The ten-week Construction Worker Preparation program is delivered at trade shops in Regina, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and various community locations. The program includes classroom and hands-on training, life skills training, career planning, and safety tickets. Students can also complete a work practicum and earn 300 hours of trade time credit toward an apprenticeship in Carpentry.

This advanced level of Adult Special Education prepares students for additional education and careers. This certificate program supports students to achieve their own, educational, vocational, and personal development goals. The educational focus is on developing student success skills and work readiness skills. Employment awareness and the development of appropriate workplace attitudes, values and behaviours are a focus of this program as well. All students will benefit in personal development through participation in course work which develops communication, assertiveness, stress management, and conflict resolution skills. Students will also participate in employment exploration and work experience in the community, facilitated by the ASE liaison. BEST is a 10-month program.
