8 Innovation PhD Degree Programs

The PhD programme in Intersectoral Innovation intends to develop a cadre of professionals equipped with the field-specific and interdisciplinary skill set needed to access, both during their doctoral programme and in their professional career thereafter, entirely novel professional opportunities. This decidedly intersectoral training will pave the way for a career in academia or in business or industry, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and techniques intrinsic to the academic sphere to the world of manufacturing and production.

The Doctorate in Business innovation (DBI) results from the request of a group of companies and the willingness of the University of Aveiro to offer an international postgraduate training at the doctoral level in a business environment, with a global vision and multi-year planning. The DBI should solve the problems and reinvent complex and multidisciplinary business processes.

The PhD in Management - Innovation, Sustainability, and Healthcare is a three-year training program leading to research activity in the public and private domains as well as managerial jobs in public and private organizations. The Ph.D. program aims, to train students for academic and managerial positions in both public and private organizations.

To produce doctorate degrees in science and innovation in animal health with the knowledge, expertise, and understanding of modern evolutionary applications, create useful innovations, and transfer technology to veterinarians. To develop teaching and learning that are beneficial to countries in Asia with the cooperation network of Kasetsart University and foreign universities in a group of subjects in animal health sciences and innovations.

The PhD program aims to explore the essence, impact, and challenges of research related to the transformation of the territory, landscape, the built environment, and, more generally, the system of material and immaterial artifacts, combining the consolidated approaches of design disciplines with the experimentation of innovative, sustainable, and inclusive strategies, processes, and tools.

The programme, taught in English, allows for an in-depth look at the different factors that affect the competitiveness and sustainability of companies and territories, in order to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Ph.D. Programme on Innovation, Economics, and Governance for Development (IEGD) is a multidisciplinary course offered by UNU-MERIT and its School of Governance. The programme focuses on research skills and methods, training fellows to become both scholars and practitioners in the fields of governance and the economics of technology. The programme provides advanced training in the knowledge and skills most relevant to the economics of technology and innovation, and to governance, social protection, and migration. Built around a core of courses on innovation and development, the programme also features modules on the economics of technological change, complex social systems, governance and policy evaluation, social protection, and migration. During their first year, fellows complete an intensive programme of required and elective courses, taught by leading scholars of UNU-MERIT and our partner universities. These courses are taught in English, in Maastricht, and spread across two semesters, starting in September each year. The course work is followed by three years of dissertation research and writing, ending with a completed Ph.D. thesis. At the end of the programme, the doctoral degree is awarded by Maastricht University upon successful defense of the thesis.
