The Doctor of Education programme features a high-level academic study of a range of educational and professional issues, tutored units and a supervised research component that will enable you to make a contribution to knowledge through unit assignments, and through the dissertation focus on the interplay and relationship between professional practice and scholarship. The course will enable students to become efficiently equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge in order to advance in international organisations and achieve positive results when operating in executive positions. Each Doctoral student must take a number of online modules and also complete a dissertation. Students must defend their dissertation in a "viva voce" (oral) examination which can be completed online. The viva-voce examination is an intense and challenging experience, but we offer relevant guidance and support to help our research students prepare for this important milestone.

Students can choose one of the following focus areas by selecting the corresponding Thesis module.

Philosophy of Education teaches philosophy of pedagogy and education in relation to the history of philosophy and leading concepts in contemporary philosophy. Philosophy of Education is based on traditions of critical thought, philosophical anthropology, social and political philosophy, eco-pedagogy, and critical pedagogy; it further reaches into other approaches to social science, such as cultural anthropology, sociolinguistics, and sociology, with the aim of studying general problems of contemporary society. The goal of doctoral research is the scholarly preparation of individuals who stand out in their creative, critical, and conceptual thought, with interdisciplinary reach, and are able to develop Philosophy of Education and related fields. Graduates will be prepared to evaluate and conceptualize goals and strategies of education and pedagogy in scholarly and educational institutions and in the state sector. Doctoral studies are conceived as a preparatory program for scholars and researchers whose creative endeavors contribute to the development of theory and research in the field of education sciences. The program aims preferably to enhance their relevant expertise, disseminate relevant research findings and trends in the field of education, and cultivate methodological competencies of doctoral students. The general focus of the study program offers students the chance to get acquainted more deeply with the pedagogical disciplines. The focal point of the doctoral study is a doctoral dissertation/thesis, defined as an original scholarly work whose findings enrich the respective field of study within the broader context of developing the discipline. Due to the nature and content of the study, the applicant may consult the theme, the structure of the project, and possibilities for its processing with potential supervisors of doctoral studies.
