The Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies at ELTE is currently the only higher institution of education in Hungary to offer an English-language MA degree in Film Studies.

Aim of the program in BA in Orchestral and Choral Conducting: To educate musicians who - with their performing skills, theoretical knowledge, and highly developed musical abilities - enrich and spread the Hungarian and  European music culture. They can enrich the repertoire of musical knowledge with their sophisticated musical taste and are able to work in musical institutions, professional performing ensembles and in other occupations which require music education.

We have been running educational projects since 1996 in the field of electroacoustic music, video art and design, presenting a special role in the faculty, where both of the fine arts and classical music students cooperate in the projects. With the BA in Electronic Music and Media Arts, we cover the gap in the study of electronic music and in a wider perspective, specialize in the arts of new media.

The EKCU Institute of Music offers a six-semester bachelor's degree program, where students study and experience a blend of Hungarian music education tradition and a 21st-century approach to music education and performance practice.

Besides general music theory and music history classes, the training will introduce students to the technique of choral conducting as well as to theoretical and practical issues related to the human voice, voice formation and maintenance, the history of choral music, repertoire, different styles and all the related know-how in all branches of choir music. MA in Choral Conducting and learning it at a high level requires personal skills, artistic sensitivity, having a good ear, knowledge of music and, most of all, the individual’s singing culture and knowledge about chamber music.

The course in BA in Classical Singing helps students prepare for their role as a teacher. Its goal is to map out this task, to increase self-awareness, to understand and interiorize this role, and to initiate taking on this task. It is important for students to interpret the activities, pedagogical roles, and tasks in a pedagogical environment, from the teacher's perspective. Students should learn that motivation, evaluation, the environment, the relationship with parents, the planning of the pedagogical process, and the adaptive change of all these in the real situation, are essential tools for the role of a music teacher. They need to understand that preparing for this task requires serious concentration, commitment, and preparation. This requires self-knowledge, self-reflection, self-acceptance, balanced psychological immunity, and professional, pedagogical, and psychological knowledge.

All those awarded a BA degree shall be ready and able to serve in orchestras, choirs, and chamber ensembles alike. They shall be able to become genuine actors in the culture sector in institutions engaged in music. They will have the necessary academic, technical and professional knowledge to get admitted to master-level education in their field.

These programs in MA in Classical Music Performance (Piano, Violin, Flute, Guitar) are for the truly committed – for those young artists who do have the aim to be on stage regularly. In the instrumental performance classes held two times a week through four semesters the goal is to achieve: - technical abilities of a real virtuoso, - playing stability and reliability, - detailed stylistic knowledge of all major eras and genres of classical music related to the instrument studied, - an ability to shape the musical process down to the smallest nuances and shades with ease and creativity, - a fundamental respect for the composer’s instructions, put into a viable combination with the performer’s own ideas and personality.
