Key Summary
About: The EKCU Institute of Music offers a six-semester Bachelor of Arts in Music Culture that blends Hungarian music education traditions and 21st-century performance practice and research. You’ll study the Kodály concept, join faculty ensembles (award-winning choir, chamber groups, light bands), and develop vocal, instrumental, and computer music skills. Computer Music specialization compulsory from the 3rd semester.
Career Outcomes: You’ll gain event management, program editing, ensemble leadership, and production skills for work with bands, choirs, theaters, film or recording studios, churches, and cultural centers. Graduates can work as performer, ensemble leader, event manager, consultant, organizer, or entrepreneur domestically or abroad.
Why is the BA in Music Culture a good choice?
The EKCU Institute of Music offers a six-semester bachelor's degree program, where students study and experience a blend of Hungarian music education tradition and a 21st-century approach to music education and performance practice. While becoming knowledgeable in the methods and principles of the Kodály concept, students can become members of the faculty ensembles (sing in our award-winning choir, play in chamber music formations and light music bands) and develop their vocal/instrumental skills. Also, at our Computer Music specialization, students acquire the essential knowledge for skilled, contemporary musicianship. We are proud of our acclaimed faculty, some of us give concerts all over the world, are prize-winning composers and choir leaders, or theater music specialists and leading music historians.

What will you learn?
You will study the theoretical subjects necessary for a musical education, such as: music theory, music history, solfege, folk music, folk tradition. At the same time, practical training, courses and lessons are predominant, as they are also essential to become a musician: you will acquire knowledge of conducting, choir, voice training, chamber music, orchestral practice, instrumental playing. It is important to know that the Eger Music Institute is the only one of its kind in Hungary where you can pursue other instrumental studies under the guidance of a teacher.
How will this training help you?
- You will learn skills of musical event management, also of editing concert programs; to work as a team leader in running site operations for different music ensembles and cultural institutions, managing them at a medium level.
- You will be able not only to evaluate performance results, but also participate actively in the creation of group musical performances. As an educated specialist, referent, consultant, and organizer, you will enhance and solve the organizational issues of the concert life.
- You can perform your activities based on a contract with a band or choir, a film studio, a theater, a recording studio, churches, or cultural centers. Your knowledge will be especially helpful in working as an individual entrepreneur, even at foreign destinations.
