The master’s degree provides students with the knowledge and techniques required to direct audiovisual works in any format. Students will learn about the director’s job and perform this role and the ones of the other members of the direction department during the preproduction, shooting, and postproduction processes.

The two-year master’s studies allow more freedom than bachelor’s studies, providing opportunities to engage in independent artistic work. You will actively participate in the planning and implementation of your own studies, as well as in developing the field of art that the degree program represents.

The Master’s programme in Directing Cinema and Digital Media at FAMU is a full-time, English-taught, three-year course designed for graduates who wish to develop their authorship, storytelling, and directing skills across fiction, documentary, and experimental media. The programme emphasizes the director’s role throughout the production process — from concept development and scriptwriting to image design, actor direction, and post-production.

Offered by the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre, the Master’s programme in Directing of Devised and Object Theatre is designed for students who wish to explore contemporary performance beyond conventional scripted drama. Rather than interpreting pre-written plays, the programme emphasises devising original works from inspiration, material, object, space, and audience relations.

These courses offer specialist, vocational teaching in the field of movement for actors and production practice for movement directors. Bespoke movement placements at Central and in other professional theatre settings, such as other conservatoires, or theatre, opera or film organizations (both in Britain and internationally), are a key part of the course. There are opportunities for the development of individual movement specialisms and their application to the work of actors. Tradition, experience, eclecticism and innovation epitomize Central’s understanding of movement training for the theatre, and these unique courses have been created in that spirit.
