Our Master of Arts in Art Education degree will help you grow both as an artist and as an educator. The Global Contemporary Art MA is a practice-led course designed to nurture the professional, critical, and collaborative skills needed to pursue impactful, globally-aware, and socially responsible artistic and curatorial practices. The course recognizes that there has been a fundamental shift in the vision and purpose of contemporary art in global and trans-local contexts.

Our Education in Arts & Cultural Settings MA offers you the exciting opportunity to study a course that combines academic and practice-based knowledge in the growing area of art-based education, engagement and participation, through diverse and engaging modes of teaching/learning. It is designed to provide professional knowledge and expertise in that area for both students who are already working in the culture/arts sector and for students who are aspiring to get into an education-related career in culture and the arts.

As one of the largest graduate programs of its kind in the country, Emerson College’s on-campus Theatre Education & Applied Theatre MA and MFA programs prepare you to use theatre to create learning experiences that transform lives and communities. Housed in the Department of Performing Arts in the School of the Arts, the programs allow you to grow and refine your craft as an artist and an educator. Coursework focuses on principles like social justice, anti-racism, and youth-led activism. We offer three graduate programs, an MA in Theatre Education & Applied Theatre, an MA in Theatre Education: Licensure, and an MFA in Theatre Education & Applied Theatre.

The Voice courses at Central are nationally and internationally renowned, giving a specialized education in the study and practice of the spoken voice. These courses are for graduates of appropriate disciplines who wish to follow a career in voice teaching and who seek specialized study and practice in voice and speech. Students will study with internationally renowned voice tutors and professionals, learn pedagogical skills for the teaching of voice on this world-leading course and network with actors, accent coaches, speech therapists and singers and undertake education and industry placements.

Develop your ability to contextualise, critique, and create. This MA addresses the historical, political, theoretical and ethical issues of applied theatre, and explores the ways in which theatre and performance are created by diverse groups of people.

These courses offer specialist, vocational teaching in the field of movement for actors and production practice for movement directors. Bespoke movement placements at Central and in other professional theatre settings, such as other conservatoires, or theatre, opera or film organizations (both in Britain and internationally), are a key part of the course. There are opportunities for the development of individual movement specialisms and their application to the work of actors.
