7 Epistemology Degree Programs

In October 2016, the Faculty of Humanities will introduce the master's program in Jewish Philosophy and Religion. Over four semesters, students deal with philosophical and religious questions about Judaism and deepen their knowledge of Hebrew.

This course introduces students to theories of knowledge, with an emphasis on the developing field of social epistemology. Throughout the course we will assess the strengths and weaknesses of different arguments and theoretical frameworks.

Official inter-university master's degree, coordinated jointly by the universities of Valladolid and Salamanca. Its objective is to provide students with high academic and research standards, which complements the best performance of a professional career and qualify for research work and the completion of a doctoral thesis. It offers students specialized knowledge in four areas or pathways: History of Philosophy and Metaphysics, Moral and Political Philosophy, Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts, and Epistemology, with emphasis on the historical foundations of these disciplines and on a methodological background. This Master´s Degree enables analytical and critical thinking, and contributes to the development of intellectual rigor, argumentative skills, the capacity for multidisciplinary integration, an ethical conscience and attention to the principles and conceptual foundations of human knowledge and action. It is of interest not only to BA graduates in Philosophy or other Humanities disciplines (History, Philology, Art, etc.), but also to those coming from other scientific or technical branches (Law, Social Sciences, Psychology, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.).

The successes of science in the modern world are ubiquitous, and science is clearly important for understanding that world and our place in it. But what exactly makes one form of intellectual activity or social practice scientific? Such questions will be raised and considered in varying degrees of detail.

In the master’s program in Politics, Economics, and Philosophy (PEP), you learn to analyze individual and collective decision-making processes in order to solve problems in the areas of politics, corporate governance, or international relations later on. This rigorous, research-oriented program concentrates on current theories and methods of political science, economics, and philosophy.

All learning in Western history began as philosophy. That's why a doctorate degree is still called a Ph.D. (doctorate of philosophy). Philosophy is a basic, foundational discipline, even if its vocabulary is specialized. As such, it deals with large questions like: what can we know, what should we do, what may we hope and what is human natureIt is the mother of all academic disciplines, fundamental to intellectual and cultural literacy.

The Master in Statistics, Data Intelligence, and the Foundations of the Sciences offer a unique opportunity to obtain not only technical proficiency in data analysis and processing techniques through hands-on tutorials on some of the most popular platforms (Python, STATA, R, Matlab) but also to understand their epistemic rationale and grounding.
