6 Educational Practice Degree Programs in Canada

The ESTR (Education and Skills Training) program offers four certificates for students who have experienced barriers to employment to prepare them for entry level positions within the workforce. Each nine-month certificate runs from September through May and is divided between classroom work and hands on experiential learning.

The Ph.D. with a major in Education is a theory and practice-rich research degree where students will address significant issues and professional practice within a particular concentration. The program will prepare research-literate individuals for careers in a variety of educational and professional contexts which increasingly base their inquiries on research-based studies.

Building on the foundations of the Educational Assistant Certificate, learning in this program will explore the historical and philosophical influences on current best practices in school-age educational programming, examine the sociology of the Canadian family, develop specialized practice in supporting programming for children with exceptionalities and developmental disabilities, expand understanding and strategies in the areas of mathematics and language learning, and strengthen insights and approaches for working effectively as a contributing team member in planning and supporting school-age learning. This program offers a combination of theoretical instruction along with practical experience in an educational setting.

Students who complete the Bachelor of Education degree will be well-prepared to teach in today's inclusive learning environments. Through a common set of courses, students will earn minors in both inclusive education and integrated instructional design. The Bachelor of Education in Early Years Education is a four-year program with focused learning and practicum experiences at the Kindergarten to Grade 3 level. Students in the BEd Early Years program gain a breadth of knowledge spanning a range of disciplines, as well as a speciality skills in foundational K - 3 teaching. The BEd Early Years leads to Alberta Teacher Certification.
