This course is a mixture of technical exercises and sequences given by the tutor and room for improvisation and self-expression. You will also develop your dance compositional skills by using German Tanztheater's tools, as this course is regularly performing in Morley College's Dance events.

A Level Dance is an exciting, challenging course that explores theory through the practical application of knowledge. It is totally different from any private dance tuition you may have experienced and celebrates many different styles, from ballet to jazz. Everyone brings something different to the course and you will grow in confidence as you actively develop your own choreographic voice within a collaborative, supportive environment.

We follow the AQA specification at Bilborough Sixth Form College. You’ll be taught in a dedicated dance studio, with a sprung floor, mirrored walls, and portable sound and lighting equipment. Practical exams take place in our wonderfully equipped Theatre. It is desirable, but not essential, that you have dance experience – and you must show enthusiasm, passion and a willingness to experiment with different styles.

MA Dance: Performance and Professional Practices is a practical-focused course, co-designed and co-delivered with our industry partner Joss Arnott. You will focus on contemporary dance performance at the highest level. You’ll also become part of Emergence, our postgraduate dance company who work with internationally acclaimed choreographers to produce a programme of new performance work each year and tour nationally every spring season. You’ll study in our £55 million New Adelphi building, home to multiple rehearsal studios and a theatre.

The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) DDE is an initial accredited teaching qualification at Level 4, aimed at students from 16 years or older who wish to begin training as a dance teacher. Bird College offers the DDE in Modern, Tap and Imperial Classical Ballet as extra-curricular classes to those students who are taking the Degree or Diploma courses. This intensive course runs throughout the Christmas, Easter and half term holidays and is led by one of the ISTD’s Senior Examiners.
