In WAT-CHANGE - Water-Related Ecosystem Services for Adapting Societies to Climate Change Seasonal School aims at introducing the participants to the new growing area of solutions provided by water-related ecosystem services. In particular, we will deal with nature-based solutions for water supply, treatment of polluted water, and flood risk mitigation such as managed aquifer recharge, river restoration, constructed wetlands, sustainable drainage systems, and remediation of contaminated sites using phytoremediation techniques.

Goucher’s Environmental Studies Program is designed to encourage thinking across disciplinary boundaries in order to prepare students for meaningful engagement with central environmental questions and challenges facing current and future generations. The program offers students the opportunity to major or minor in a curriculum that bridges social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. After completing a series of core courses in various disciplines, environmental studies majors must choose either the environment and society concentration or the environmental science concentration to complete remaining coursework.

The Environmental Studies Concentration draws upon the disciplinary strengths of a traditional major and a set of courses focused on the environment, including two integrative courses. Students may utilize environmental studies-related upper-level courses within their own discipline to complete requirements of the concentration if the courses have a significant component that addresses environmental concerns.

The environmental studies major will provide you with an appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues and includes courses from the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. By developing a broad foundation of knowledge and integrative thinking skills, you will graduate with the intellectual tools and breadth of understanding to confront environmental challenges of the present and future. You are also encouraged to explore independent and summer research possibilities and utilize the many resources provided by the Miller Worley Center for the Environment.

Dickinson's environmental studies & environmental science department is one of the oldest and best established in the country. Our faculty are well-known in their fields and provide rigorous, hands-on coursework in environmental policy, aquatic ecology, agroecology, forest ecology, environmental health, food studies, sustainable communities, international environmental politics, environmental philosophy, ethics and literature, wildlife conservation, natural resource management and environmental justice.

Environmental Studies at Vassar is a fully multidisciplinary program that involves the natural and social sciences as well as the arts and humanities. It explores the relationships between people and the totality of their environments-natural, built, and social. Graduates from the Environmental Studies (ENST) program go on to pursue graduate education in areas such as urban ecology, environmental policy, public health, environmental law, environmental management, and environmental science. We offer three majors, Environmental Science, Environmental Science Chemistry Emphasis, and Environmental Studies. Listed below are the requirements for each of these majors. The Environmental Studies Program also offers an Environmental Studies minor. The minor is advised by faculty affiliated with the Environmental Studies Program and can complement any major offered by Colorado College.

The Environmental Studies department is dedicated to training the next generation of environmental scholars, activists, and educators for the world that they will inherit. Now and over the coming decades, human societies face daunting environmental challenges. We must find rational, holistic and ethically grounded ways to combat these issues. In collaboration with Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges, students can pursue a major or minor in Environmental Studies. Environmental Studies students apply critical thinking and analytical skills within a holistic systems framework that includes social justice as an essential component.

Wabash College’s Environmental Studies minor provides students with an opportunity to apply a liberal arts perspective to environmental issues and questions of sustainability, linking traditional scientific study of the environment to the role the environment plays in human experience and society. Human society relies on a healthy, functioning global ecosystem for its survival, but human activities often damage the environment and undermine its capacity to support us. While such environmental degradation has occurred throughout human history, environmental issues have increasingly moved to the forefront of public discourse, even to the point of being considered the greatest existential threat to humanity. Addressing issues of biodiversity and ecological resiliency in our curriculum is an essential aspect of our stated mission to educate responsible, humane leaders. The central mission of Carleton’s Environmental Studies Program is to educate the next generation of environmental scholars and professionals in the core scientific, humanistic, and social science perspectives that inform environmental issues around the world.

The Environmental Studies Minor has been designed as a program for non-Science students to develop scientific literacy skills in order to engage critically with environmental issues. Care for the environment already impacts our social, political and ethical decisions, and students with a minor in Environmental Studies these decisions can be informed by a deeper understanding of the complexity of our relationship with the environment.

The program offers three possible minors, ranging from 18-29 credits. The Environmental Policy Minor provides a look into the issues, policies, and laws regarding the environment. The Environmental Science Minor provides a foundation in the natural and physical sciences as they pertain to environmental studies. The Environmental Studies Minor combines a balance of both environmental science and policy. These minors are well-suited for students of any major, like business, communication, psychology, etc.
