The field of early child care and education has many opportunities. Because of the need for child care outside the family, well prepared early childhood educators are in great demand. A certificate or degree in Child Development from Fresno City College provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience to obtain a job in many different program types.

At its core, our Child Development minor prepares students to appropriately educate and directly care for children. With coursework exploring psychological processes, cultural diversity, the arts, child guidance, and atypical development, this interdisciplinary minor is an excellent supplement to a wide variety of majors.

The Ranger College Child Development Center and After School Program was established to provide quality education and child care to help parents fulfil work, study, and family responsibilities.

Students studying child development take courses that focus on the physical, social, emotional, linguistic and intellectual development of children from birth through age 8. Most classes have opportunities for students to observe and work with young children, as well as an on-site infant-toddler program where students observe and may be hired as work-study students.

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing offers 6 permits, information can be found at CTC Credentials for Child Development. For further assistance contact the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, FCOE Child Development information, or speak with an FCC Child Development Instructor. Each permit has different requirements depending on the level of authorization. The units earned for one permit level can be used to move up the permit matrix towards the next level.

Earn while you learn with this flexible delivery option. There is an increasing demand for child development practitioners. The majority of the training takes place while working on the job as a paid apprentice, and the formal education portion can be taken via distance education. This program can be completed in as little as three years.

If you are contemplating a career in education, social work, or psychology, the Education, Family and Childhood Profile of Dawson’s Social Science Program is designed especially for you! It could also interest students who would like to pursue other fields of work related to health and social services for children and families. We take a multidisciplinary approach to studying and understanding the social, psychological, and cultural development of children from birth to adulthood. Students will learn how society, community, education and public policy influence the structure of the family and the development of children. In addition, this profile has a fieldwork component in the second and fourth terms in collaboration with schools, community centers and daycares around Dawson and all of Montreal.

Do you enjoy being around children, have an interest in child development and are patient, caring, enthusiastic and enjoy being creative? But most of all do you have a sense of fun?This one year course will allow you to get hands on in a childcare setting and Primary School, interacting with children and being part of a team whose main aim is to provide a caring and enabling environment. You will take part in a weekly work placement and attend college in order to complete the course.

This course is ideal for people who want to work in the early years industry or progress to university-level courses with a Level 3 qualification. Over the two-year period, students will cover fourteen core and specialist units to enhance their knowledge of the world of working with children aged 0-8 years in a variety of settings. You will be provided with the opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge within a range of work-related contexts through weekly work experience placements.

Our kiddie's centre is purpose built for that age group and our teachers are specialists in teaching these very young learners.
