11 Interpretation Bachelor's Degree Programs

The basic objective of this degree is to train translation and interpreting professionals capable of identifying and applying quality cultural and linguistic mediation tools and strategies, as well as preparing them for future specialization. Students will choose between three options: English-Spanish, French-Spanish and English-Galician. Whichever option is chosen, a second language (English, French, German or Portuguese) will be studied further.

The Study Course activated at the SSLMIT (Modern Language Studies Section for Interpreters and Translators) is characterized by a strong international dimension, as evidenced by participation in the EMCI (European Masters in Conference Interpreting) consortium and in the EMT (European Master's in Translation) network ). The Degree Course boasts consolidated links with European institutions, in particular with the European Commission (DG Interpretation and DG Translation) and with the European Parliament. Furthermore, since its inception, SSLMIT has been part of CIUTI (Conférence Internationale permanent d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interpretes).

The first cycle is devoted to the in-depth study of two foreign languages to be chosen from among 9 languages: German, English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Turkish and Russian (Dutch and Russian cannot be combined; l (Arabic, Chinese and Turkish must be combined with English).

The Interpreter/Translator program is designed for students interested in the more technical aspects of the Inuktitut language and who wish to pursue a career in this field. The first-year places special emphasis on language development, communication skills, and technical skills necessary in translation. The second-year is designed to assist students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required as an interpreter. Emphasis will be placed on helping the student acquire specialized vocabulary in technical areas, and on consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills.

The main goal of the Kyrgyz-Turkish Program is to prepare competent and in-demand Kyrgyz-Turkish translators who can do consecutive, synchronized, and written translations and who can put the information they gain during their education to practical use.
