Civil Engineering (CE) aims to understand civilization developments with the invention of innovative engineering design methodologies, algorithms, management, and procedures. Civil engineering education provides firm and sustainable foundations with up-to-date challenges to solve the problems related to social and civil services in the construction, transportation, environment, and energy sectors.

Civil Engineering department includes construction, hydraulic, transportation, and geotechnical knowledge as well as basics about civil engineering. The principle of the department is to develop students' creativity, teach them how to make research, design, plan, and apply.

Civil Engineering focuses on the education and research on design, analysis, construction, and control of structural systems such as buildings, dams, airports, bridges, tunnels, etc. The Department of Civil Engineering has six divisions: Structural Engineering, Hydraulics, Transportation, Geotechnics, Construction Management, and Structural Materials. The undergraduate program of the Department of Civil Engineering started in the 2011-2012 academic year. The Bachelor’s Degree Program of the Department of Civil Engineering is a 240 ECTS credits, 4-year program composed of eight semesters, each of which has a 30 ECTS workload. One ECTS equals 25.5 hours of student workload per semester. While in the first two years of the program, mathematical and mechanical courses are covered in the third and fourth years of the program the fundamental topics of the Civil Engineering discipline are studied. Our department stands out due to its emphasis on Geotechnics - Structural Engineering – Hydraulics interaction and Construction Management. The language of instruction in our department is Turkish.

Civil engineering is arguably one of the oldest engineering disciplines. It deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and natural built environment, including buildings, roads, bridges, dams, and canals. It is a wide ranging profession, including different sub-disciplines, structural engineering, materials science, geotechnical engineering, water resources, surveying, and transportation engineering.

The graduates of the civil engineering program of TEDU should solve civil engineering problems within a greater societal context. They will have professional and ethical conduct and be able to apply knowledge, strong reasoning, and quantitative skills to design and implement creative and sustainable solutions.

To succeed, civil engineers must couple creativity and originality with a deep understanding of technical topics as well as broader areas such as sustainability, design and management.
