9 Arabic BA Degree Programs

The concentration in Arabic has an emphasis on developing strong language skills, including literacy and oral communication, along with an in-depth understanding of modern Arabic culture and society. Students concentrating in Arabic are expected to gain fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and a working knowledge of at least one Arabic dialect. Additionally, students will graduate with a strong background in Arab intellectual history, literature, and culture.

Our Arabic courses are designed for beginner or 'false beginner' entrants – students who may be able to read the Arabic script, and/or have completed the equivalent of one or two years of part-time study. We may need to test you to determine your entry point.

The Arabic and Islamic Civilizations Program offers students the unique opportunity of a full immersion in the Arabic language and its rich literature and culture, from Spain to Afghanistan. A degree in Social Science and Humanities will help you gain a deep understanding of society, culture and human nature. Degree choices include African-American Studies, Classics, History, International Relations, Languages, Linguistics, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, and Theology & Religious Studies.

AUC’s Arabic Language Intensive Program (ALIN) offers intensive Arabic-language courses that meet for 20 to 25 contact hours per week, offering 12 to 15 transferable credit hours for international students. ALIN offers courses at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels and infuses its curriculum with content-based courses in both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic.

The Arabic Department's mission aims at preserving and enriching the Arabic Language as a written text and spoken discourse capable of reflecting the diversity and complexity of the Arabic/ Islamic culture and civilization.
