The Art Department offers both an Associate in Arts Degree. Various required and elective courses focus on individual creative development and provide a broad range of classroom and studio experiences. Art courses fulfill requirements for transfer or prepare students for careers requiring competency in visual media.

APU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art is the professional undergraduate degree highly desired by serious students intent on pursuing careers or advanced degrees in the visual arts, such as an MFA. The BFA in Art gives art students flexibility in constructing a program that allows them to choose one of five concentrations that is best suited to their academic and career goals.

Skyline College's Art Program ensures a strong foundation in the visual arts. Enrolling in studio courses provides opportunities to explore the diversity of methods and materials to make art. The Davis & Elkins College art program prepares you with a strong foundation in the arts, design, art theory and art history to build on in your chosen medium – drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, digital media. Whether you choose to major or minor in art, you’ll learn alongside dedicated, mentoring faculty who are working artists and active in the field.

Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts examine human values and experience within a wide range of cultures across the globe and over the course of history. Students will study, interpret, and evaluate classic works in architecture, art, literature, music, philosophy, religion, rhetoric, and the theater, and they will encounter questions to which there are multiple plausible answers. The study of language, philosophy, and rhetoric provides crucial tools for understanding and interpreting human knowledge and experience. Students pursuing the program in the Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts will enhance their skills in critical thinking and both oral and written communication. The Art program is a skills-based curriculum that satisfies humanities distribution requirements, elective requirements, and foundation work required for most four-year art degrees. In each course, you will learn the principles of art and the historical context of the discipline.

An Associate in Arts in Studio Arts for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Studio Arts, or similar major.

This intensive 120-credit studio production program emphasizes analytical, creative, and experiential aspects of design, studio, and new media art. The BFA AVT is designed to prepare students professionally as visual artists or for graduate study in the arts. Students devote a significant portion of their college careers to an in-depth study in their concentration. In addition to completing the university-wide general education requirements and electives, BFA AVT majors must complete Studio Foundations Experience, studio core and research practicum courses, art history, and critical theory requirements, interdisciplinary studio course electives, Professional Practice, and a capstone. Students choose a concentration in either Graphic Design or Studio Art.

Liberal Studies (LBS) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major for students who intend to become elementary and special education teachers or to pursue related graduate work. Courses leading to the B.A. in Liberal Studies focus on the subject areas taught in elementary schools as well as professional preparation and early fieldwork. LBS is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program (ESM). LBS also offers two Integrated Teacher Education Programs (ITEP) in which students earn a B.A. and a credential for teaching elementary school (multiple subjects) or special education (education specialist mild/moderate).
