The MRes in Wildlife Conservation is unique as the only Master of Research collaboratively with a conservation organisation. It includes a 4-week independent research project with real-world conservation impact. You'll gain experience working with Marwell Wildlife while studying for your master’s.

Broad-based, in-depth theoretical and practical training with emphasis on the skills required to capture, transport and manage free-ranging and captive animals with due consideration of conservation ecology, the interaction of wildlife and domestic animals and the control of diseases of wildlife.

Wildlife science is the application of ecological knowledge in a manner that strikes a balance between the needs of wildlife populations and the needs of people. Coursework and faculty expertise span the animal kingdom and the planet, with a programmatic emphasis on North American species, policies, and practices.  The focus is applied ecology, and students gain the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to meet contemporary and future challenges facing wildlife such as restoring habitat, securing populations of rare and vulnerable species, mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, controlling invasive species and disease, managing sustainable harvests, and ensuring species persistence under climate change.

The progress of all master's candidates is monitored biannually by the supervisor and the postgraduate coordinator. A candidate's study may be terminated if the progress is unsatisfactory or if the candidate is unable to finish his/her studies during the prescribed period.

The Master of Science (MSc) is a two-year degree which encompasses both coursework and research. The first year involves mainly coursework and preliminary research preparation. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to existing fields of research, or to begin to develop new areas.

The Wildlife and Environmental Conservation programme will provide a comprehensive understanding of the scientific study of wildlife and the diversity of living organisms. There is opportunity to develop skills and enhance knowledge across a range of environmental based industries, including wildlife conservation, habitat management and ecological consultancy. This two-year Foundation degree will cover a range of themes including wildlife biology, habitat management, evolution and taxonomy, practical field research, current industry techniques and technologies. All aspects have been tailored to provide successful students with the best skill-set for their chosen industry.
