9 Technical Drawing Preparatory Programs

Open to the creative individual, inspired professionals, current college students, and college graduates, as well as those newly admitted to SCI-Arc’s M.Arch 1 program, Making+Meaning is a four-week summer studio program that introduces students to architectural experimentation and transformative design techniques in a unique and lively studio setting.

In this program, you’ll learn to produce architectural drawings using computer-aided drafting (CAD) software and tools, such as Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture and SketchUp. Courses develop your understanding of 3-D modeling, building codes, construction materials and methods, cost estimating and green building.

A range of skills will be developed as part of the learning program and will include: Communication by a written report, proportional sketches, scale drawing, and specifications; Correct use of specialized terminology commonly used within the industry; Problem-solving concerning materials and methods of construction.

SketchUp is an all-purpose 2D and 3D design and drawing software program providing students with the tools to easily create their ideas and designs. SketchUp's low learning curve makes it the 3D modelling software for everyone with it's simple to learn yet powerful toolset that empowers you to create.

The Architectural Graphics AAS degree prepares students for careers with architecture firms, construction companies, city, county, and state architectural and civil engineering departments and corporate architectural and civil engineering departments.

Students in this program learn how to create drawings and computer simulations to support mechanical and industrial engineers. In addition to drafting techniques, students study manufacturing processes and materials, the science of metal, and technical communication. This program stresses the understanding of all aspects of the drafting industry.

This program is designed to provide students with entry-level skills in mechanical, electrical, civil, and architectural drafting and/or design.
