What is a Sous Chef?
A Sous Chef is a professional who works in the kitchen of a restaurant, hotel, or other food service establishment. The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef with the day-to-day operations of the kitchen. In addition to their regular duties, the Sous Chef may be required to fill in for the Executive Chef when they are absent.

Types of Sous Chef degrees
There are two types of Sous Chef degrees: the Associate's degree and the Bachelor's degree. The Associate's degree takes approximately two years to complete, while the Bachelor's degree takes four years to complete. Both types of degrees prepare students for a career in the culinary arts. The Associate's degree program in Sous Chef training provides students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to begin their career in the culinary arts. The program emphasizes the importance of sanitation and safety in the kitchen, as well as proper food handling and preparation techniques. Students learn about menu planning, customer service, and effective communication skills. The Bachelor's degree program in Sous Chef training builds on the foundation established in the Associate's degree program. In addition to the courses required for the Associate's degree, the Bachelor's degree program includes advanced courses in food science, nutrition, and business management. The bachelor's program provides students with opportunities to complete an internship in a professional kitchen.
