The General Arts and Science one-year certificate at George Brown College is designed for students who wish to develop the skills and competencies required in college, university, and the workplace. As a student in this program, you will explore subjects within humanities, social sciences, and science and mathematics; develop skills in critical thinking, oral and written communications, and career development; and acquire knowledge and explore ideas in a range of disciplines to meet your needs and interests. Students who meet GPA requirements may transfer into the two-year diploma program, which has established pathways to a number of universities.

The major focus of studying Health Sciences involves the application of science to health-related topics such as medicine, nutrition, and environmental health. It involves applying scientific research to clinical practice to provide a background for students leading to improving healthcare for communities. This course will provide a foundational overview of the concepts of health, illness, and disease across cultures and historical periods, including Indigenous cultures. Current epidemiological terminology and strategies will be introduced. Students will examine the social determinants of health and how public policy is used to promote population health. Students will also have an opportunity to explore specific health issues, including ethical and moral considerations, and be provided with an overview of the Canadian health care system.

Geography combines natural and social sciences to explore human interaction with the environment and the social, political, economic and cultural forces that shape it. Whether you love the outdoors, are concerned about human impact on the environment, or want to design better future communities, geography is the perfect field for you! All geography courses are university-transferable and may be counted towards a 2-year, 60 credit, multidisciplinary Associate Degree of Arts.
