Almost all the work is conducted outside, working with a variety of tools and machinery. And, if you choose to climb trees, you can have your very own natural “office” with a view every day. Gateway’s Arboriculture/Urban Forestry Technician associate degree provides the hands-on skills and natural resource education for graduates to enter this exciting career field of arborists, urban foresters and related occupations. It offers family-sustaining wages and year-round work with private, corporate or government landowners.

Forestry offers students a unique opportunity to become a qualified Forestry Technician. This is the only California, 2-year college with a Forestry and Natural Resources Program leading to an Associate of Science in Forestry degree provisionally accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Graduates are typically recruited as utility foresters and timber management technicians for federal, state and private natural resources companies and agencies.

This degree is for students interested in a career in forestry as a professional forester, silviculturist, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist, or fire ecologist.

This Trees and Woodland Management course is a two year study programme and the core content will include sustainability, business, communication, Health and Safety and finance that underpins knowledge and understanding of the wider Arboriculture and Forestry sector. There is also a work placement throughout the two years that will then enable you to put into practice your knowledge and understanding whilst working alongside local employers.

The transfer program offers one Associate of Arts degree. Although there is only one degree, there are multiple disciplines within this degree.

The Forest Ecology program is designed for students to receive an Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) upon completing the requirements. Gikenimindwaa Mitigoog translates to ‘getting to know the trees,’ an apt description for a program that provides graduates with broad-based field knowledge of forest lands, the organisms inhabiting them, and the systems (soil, water, air) that support them.

Our 6-week course introduces you to the ancient art of beekeeping. It’s suitable for those looking to set up as a beekeeper. These gardeners are keen to contribute to the survival of our honey bees and those interested in honey bees and their contribution to the natural world.

The Forest Resources program provides graduates with broad-based knowledge for the management of forest-based resources.

This course explores the ethnoecological relationship between humans and forests.

This is an advanced and comprehensive two- year program designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in the diverse field of countryside management. This diploma offers a deep dive into the principles, techniques, and practices essential for effective management of rural environments, natural resources, and wildlife habitats. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical application, students gain a strong foundation in ecological conservation, sustainable land use, biodiversity, and environmental management. The curriculum focuses on key areas such as habitat restoration, wildlife conservation, environmental policy and contemporary issues, providing students with a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the countryside sector.
