8 First Aid Preparatory Programs

After successful competition of the unit student will be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Topics covered This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.

This course equips participants with the confidence, skills and knowledge required to recognise and manage a sick or injured person using key first aid principles. Participants will learn to provide first aid response, essential life support and to manage the sick or injured person until the arrival of medical assistance. After successfully completing this course graduates will receive a Statement of Attainment in Provide First Aid (Unit Code: HLTAID011 ).

This programme is the highest level of First Aid in the Province of Alberta. It is geared towards those who are currently involved in the industry as “First Aid Attendants. It is the programme of choice for those working in Alberta Business and Industry, in accordance with Provincial Workplace Health and Safety Legislation. This programme includes classrooms, skills stations, and simulations of medical and traumatic emergencies. Our course meets the requirements for hiring with the City of Edmonton Fire Department. A full-time programme of 80-90 hours is available to accommodate your schedule.

Become accredited in providing first aid as part of your roles and responsibilities in the workplace. Photo Identification (ie. drivers license, passport, etc). Please ensure you bring your Certificate of Completion from the online component of this course to the practical training day.

This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

After successful competition of the unit student will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to provide CPR, manage and assess an emergency situation, use an automatic external defibrillator (AED), understand DRSABCD and the First Aider’s legal responsibilities. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
