16 EMT Preparatory Programs

This is a mid-level worker qualification within the Emergency Care profession. Successful completion leads to registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Paramedic. The programme recognizes the key competencies required by Paramedics who are able to work independently in a variety of prehospital emergency care contexts.

The AAS degree in Emergency Medical & Health Services requires the completion of the Paramedic certificate (69 credits) and an additional 42 credits of required degree courses. With the exception of EMC 200, students may take all of the required degree courses in advance of the Paramedic certificate program. With TCC's EMHS AAS degree, you'll have the option to work as a Paramedic. You'll also have the option to go further along this career pathway. The EMHS AAS degree prepares you to transfer into Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) programs, such as TCC's Community Health BAS program.

Emergency Medical Technology: Basic is a one-semester instructional program that prepares individuals to function in the pre-hospital environment. The EMT-Basic program provides instruction in basic life support care of sick and injured persons.

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course expands on the knowledge and skills of an EMT.

The Allied Health Department offers courses for those interested in health care. These courses can be helpful in deciding to do a subsequent major in a health-related field or in meeting requirements for other majors.

Topics covered This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certificate program prepares students to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.

The MCTC Fire/Rescue Science Technology program will prepare you for the challenges facing today’s emergency responders. In this program, you will learn about fire suppression and prevention skills, technical rescue, hazardous materials, emergency medical care, and leadership.

The specialization and advanced education and training in the critically ill and injured care and transport can mean the difference between life and death. Graduates of the Paramedic Associate in Applied Science degree program will be qualified and skilled professionals in Emergency Medical Services as Paramedics.

This course gives students the ability to integrate the knowledge presented into a practical format for application in both the in/out of hospital settings.

Paramedics are often the first responders to any emergency situation, making split-second decisions that save people’s lives. Mayland offers options for current EMT’s or currently-credentialed certificate Paramedics seeking to advance your education that will allow you to earn your Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Science.

The First Aid Emergency course is the minimum level of first aid training for the workplace, appropriate for low-risk environments or those acting in the absence of a fully qualified first aider.

The emergency medical technology paramedic program prepares competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels. A combination of lecture, laboratory, clinical, and field experience will be utilized to fulfill all training requirements.

Paramedic Technician associate degree program. The program offers students the opportunity to further their professional EMS careers.

This course will give you the right skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid Response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, in a range of situations, including in the home, workplace or within the community, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.
