1319 Economics Preparatory Programs

Many high school students aspire to enroll in an international bachelor’s degree but lack the skills and background to do so. The Business Bridging program provides candidates with the knowledge required to succeed in our three-year bachelor’s programs. The Business Bridging program is a one-semester (13-week) course that acts as a bridge to the first year of our bachelor's programs. Students will strengthen their academic, communication and business English skills while studying management and economics. Students can enroll in the program in October, February and June. Upon successful completion, students are automatically admitted into the first year of our bachelor's programs.

Our Fundamentals of Graduate Economics and Finance Summer School will equip you with the fundamental tools you need to succeed. In just one week, our expert Oxford faculty will guide you through key concepts and techniques that form the backbone of many graduate-level courses in Economics.

The Seasonal School aims to strengthen the methodological skills of PhD students and early-career researchers in the field of causal inference in economics, with particular emphasis on techniques for learning causal structures from data, including both panel and time-series settings.

The degree seeks to expose students to the core principles and concepts in the field of Economics and provides students with an understanding and appreciation of the institutions, government policies, and international factors that impact the U.S. economy.

Gain a solid foundation in the critical concepts of applied monetary economics, including a coverage of techniques essential for understanding economic dynamics and the effects of central bank policy decisions.

The Associate in Arts in Economics Degree program is designed to prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions; to enter the business world with knowledge of economic trends and conditions; or to provide training for such positions as a market analyst, sales analyst, or stockbroker.

Learn about the production and consumption of goods and services, scarcity, and choice. The study of economics provides a strong basis for building critical thinking skills in the study of business and the law, while also serving the interests of the liberal arts and general education.

Economics is a broad discipline that helps us understand historical trends, interpret today’s headlines, and make predictions about the coming years. It is the study of scarcity, how people use resources, and the study of decision-making and policies about resources. An economic study of individual decisions is called microeconomics, and the study of the economy as a whole is called macroeconomics.

The First Nation Applied Economics Certificate provides foundational knowledge and skills to assist in the development of First Nation economic infrastructure, in particular the development of residential and commercial enterprises. The program will be of interest to people in First Nation economic development roles; those doing business with First Nations; and local, provincial or federal government employees involved with First Nation development.

The Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer degree focuses on developing a set of principles and models in microeconomics and macroeconomics that can be used to explain the decision-making process of individuals, firms, and society. In microeconomics, the students will learn about the producer and consumer, the function and structure of markets, and efficiency.

Agent-Based Models in Economics: Theory, Toolkit and Policy Laboratories Seasonal School is intended to achieve the following objectives: Learning agent-based modelling techniques (ABMs) as a tool for analysis and interpretation of economic and social processes.

Ecological Economics, with its core emphasis on interdisciplinarity and incommensurability, provides a valuable conceptual framework for exploring the needed transitions towards sustainability. Students, thanks also to debate-based activities, will be able to formulate their own informed perspective on sustainable development, and develop realistic policies/strategies for the transition towards sustainable development.

The Business Department offers transfer programs and non-transfer occupational programs leading to Associate Degrees and Certificates in several business areas. A student who wishes to transfer to a four-year college in business and wants to complete an associate degree prior to transfer should complete the degree in Business Administration or General Business. Accounting, General Business, and Office Skills programs will provide you with the skills needed for immediate employment; they will prepare students for advancement to positions that require more in-depth knowledge of organization and business principles; they will develop and upgrade skills in related business and office technology areas; and/or they will help students acquire entry-level job skills.

The syllabus covers a range of basic economic ideas, including an introduction to the price system and government intervention, international trade and exchange rates, the measurement of employment and inflation, and the causes and consequences of inflation.
