18 Construction Preparatory Programs

In this program, you’ll complete the requirements of the freshman and sophomore years of most engineering programs at a university, studying areas such as calculus, physics, and chemistry. This pre-major program is designed to prepare you to transfer at the junior level into an engineering program at a four-year college or university.

Become a construction manager or building inspector. The job market is strong for both career paths, especially with the increasing complexity of today's construction projects. Classes offer the most current information available and include project management, estimating, codes, inspection, and construction-related computer applications. The Construction Management program at Edmonds College is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. The program is one of eight similarly accredited associate degree programs in the United States.

Successful completion of the Associate in Arts in Construction Technology prepares students for entry into the construction trades, which require a technical skill and understanding of construction processes. Students planning on transferring to a four-year school should complete the AA Degree, which includes the 39-unit general education sequence of courses. Specific four-year institutions may require additional courses in the major to fulfill lower division requirements. This degree may not transfer to all universities, and students need to inquire of the universities if they have a bachelors degree for their upper division course work. A grade of "C" or better is required in all major, certificate and major elective courses.

The Electrical Techniques program helps students build the skills required for a career in the electrical industry. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice in electrical fundamentals. During the program, students can develop the basic skills required to become electrical apprentices. This program is the first step towards such a career as a professional tradesperson. Students are also introduced to the fundamental elements of the trade (e.g. regulations and practices).

The Civil Engineering Technology program uses math, science and technical communication skills to design and manage the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects. The program will prepare you to become a civil engineering design and construction professional. You will receive courses in: math, construction management, structural design, geotechnical engineering, material science, urban services, water resources, transportation infrastructure and technical communications.

The qualification is designed to help students become highly-skilled Quantity Surveyor/ Estimator professionals. It provides students with a thorough knowledge, and the essential skills and talents to work as an effective Quantity Surveying professional who will play a key role in different projects.

The Certificate IV in Project Management Practice is designed for people looking to develop and apply project management skills and knowledge within any industry or project.

This intensive four-year apprenticeship training program is designed to provide an electrical apprentice with the necessary theory and practical training to earn an electrician's status.
