If you are interested in a career as a second-level Mathematics and Computer Science teacher, this may be the degree for you. You will study with the Maynooth University Department of Education who are committed to reflecting on and interrogating the purposes, principles and values underpinning educational policy, practice and theory.

Mathematics is about number operations and algebra, motion and change (calculus and differential equations), logical analysis, scientific visualization, structure and geometry, the prediction of random events (probability), the extraction of useful information from large sets of data (statistics), the discovery of the best ways to do things (optimization). It is abstract and theoretical, and intensely down-to-earth and practical, all at the same time.

The minimum duration for this degree is one year. Subject to other faculty regulations, a student for a master's degree must complete his or her studies within three years after first registering for the degree. Under special circumstances, the Dean, on the recommendation of the head of department, may give approval for a limited fixed extension of this period. The Master in Mathematics for Teachers is an opportunity for teachers to enrich their knowledge on mathematics topics related to the syllabus of elementary and secondary education.

The UTA College of Education provides four options for earning a masters’ degree, offering the flexibility you have been looking for and the personal support you need. Options exist for online programs in literacy, math, and science education. Face-to-face coursework can also be tailored to the master’s program. Choose the degree option that best fits your goal.

The Master's Degree in Mathematics is a generalist master's degree that has a double objective. One, to allow the transition towards obtaining a Doctorate in Mathematics, through a solid methodological training and advanced scientific knowledge in the different areas of Mathematics. And second, it also opens a path of specialization in Mathematics with interdisciplinary training, which provides the graduate with professional skills, aptitudes and competences more adapted to the professional and research profile that today's society is demanding.
