Master of Music Church Music (Arp-Schnitger-Master for historical Church Music) Our church music programmes prepare students for the wide-ranging responsibilities of church musicians serving in both Protestant and Catholic parishes. Choral direction and organ music from the central areas of focus in these programmes. The University of the Arts has a long-standing tradition in the training of church musicians, and – with over 200 historical organs – northern Germany is home to the richest concentration of historical organs worldwide, including numerous creations from the workshop of Arp Schnittger – the Stradivarius of the organ world!

The course Dance Composition (M.A.) is offered in three branches: Choreography, Interpretation, and Movement Notation / Movement Analysis. The studies include the following main study areas: majors, theory, and observation / practical experience.

The degree program Educational Science in Music (Master of Arts) was introduced in fall 2013. It aims to equip students with the expertise they need to work as professional music educators in various social contexts outside general education schools. It also aims to foster a new generation of music education researchers, and as such it teaches students how to carry out specialized and interdisciplinary research. The curriculum focuses on teaching techniques in music education and also includes musicology as a reference subject as well as psychology (of musical learning and musical development), sociology, and ethnology (which deal with the social significance of music and multiculturalism). The degree program is accredited by ACQUIN from 2017 to 2023.

Studying at the HfKM Regensburg enables students in the New Spiritual Music course to perform outstanding church music tasks in the liturgy, at concerts and performances, in supra-regional (dioceses, regions, deaneries) church educational and general cultural work, for training and further education Full-time church musician, to advise church committees on technical issues and for representation in public.

Evidence of a first university degree in the field of music Master of Music (M.Mus.) 4 semesters full-time (part-time study is possible, depending on the major)

Studying at the HfKM Regensburg enables students in the Catholic Church Music course to perform exemplary church music tasks in the liturgy, at concerts and performances, in church educational and general cultural work, for training part-time and full-time church musicians, and for advising church bodies in technical questions and for representation in public. It prepares students for work in prominent positions in a diocese and for teaching at church music training centers.

The Master’s program in composition aims to enable the student to develop a clear personal artistic profile. It allows students to broaden their horizons in a specific way as well as to develop comprehensive practical skills to tackle the issues associated with composing music. The central focus of the program is an extensive composition project (e.g. a composition for music theater, ensemble or orchestra, a surround sound project, an interdisciplinary project, a performative project, or an electronic or live electronic composition). The content and format should be outlined in an exposé (see entrance examination below) and agreed with the head of studies. Students should approach all aspects of the project through research, discursive reflection, and practical experimentation. The contents of the program will be adapted to the needs and requirements of the respective project and hence to the needs of the individual student.
