15 Metallurgy Master's Degree Programs

The Master's in Materials Science aims to form a materials scientist, same time a chemist and a physicist. Students will therefore learn the language of both chemistry and physics, as a materials scientist should act as a bridge between these two apparently different, but very close disciplines.

Masters in Metallurgical Engineering The study program is aimed at educating specialists in modern metallurgy and engineering. Initially, basic common theoretical courses are taught, suitably complemented by courses in materials science, management, and quality management. The study program also covers the subjects of iron and steel production, foundry, and bulk-forming.

The purpose of the Master of Engineering in Physical Metallurgy is to develop a graduate with advanced abilities in appropriate analytical and research skills relevant to engineering design and synthesis, in order to solve engineering problems of society at large. One of the main objectives of this program is to develop an advanced capability to conduct research independently and as such promote a lifelong learning approach.

The Department of Metallurgy maintains strong links with the metal industry within South Africa, providing undergraduates with exposure to a wide range of metal-related operations. The exposure equips graduates with sound knowledge of metal production, design, and manufacture.

Master in Materials Engineering provides advanced education in materials engineering, with two fields of specialization: a more generalized education in materials and another in metallurgy. The study cycle offers a background in materials science and technology, focusing on product design, processing technologies, and characterization techniques, addressing all classes of materials in the specialization on materials and, more specifically, metallic materials in the case of the specialization in metallurgy. This is complemented with education in management and interdisciplinary competencies.
