The aim of MSc Biodiversity, Conservation, and Nature Recovery is to develop an advanced interdisciplinary understanding of the interconnections between the natural environment, ecosystems, human health, and well-being. On completion of this MSc program, graduates should be equipped with the necessary conservation skills, interdisciplinary outlook, and in-depth subject knowledge for employment in conservation-related subjects.

The proposal of the Master in Techniques for Characterization and Conservation of Biological Diversity has as its fundamental objective to provide the necessary tools and techniques for the development of research and professional activities in the field of Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation.

The master's degree in Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Global Change Ecology and Biodiversity Management is part of the GLOBE project. Led by the Universidad Rey Juan  Carlos (Spain) and as participants in the organisation and development are the University of Bangor (UK), the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and the Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala (Mexico), as well as various collaborating institutions from various sectors  (consultancies, NGOs, foundations, etc.).

This specialization will give you a broad introduction to ecology, evolution or systematic research. The programme covers themes that range from the biology of single organisms to biogeographical patterns, and you can immerse yourself in both theoretical and applied research. Through choosing your own subjects and working independently, you will acquire scientific competence. By working on the masters project you will learn to work in a scientific manner.

This Master's provides deep knowledge about theory in conservation biology, including population dynamics in small populations and heterogeneous landscapes as well as conservation genetics. It provides insight into how habitat loss, habitat conversion and climate change affect biodiversity and how this feeds back on ecosystem services (e.g. pollination or biological control). There is an emphasis on developing a deep understanding of and critically evaluating conservation theory and tools in conservation, and on developing skills that can be of use both in practical conservation work and in research. Conservation biology professionals are needed and employed by governmental agencies, municipalities, non-governmental organisations and private consultancies. The programme also provides a solid ground for PhD studies.
