The School of Social Innovation of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Saint Paul University offers a Master of Arts in Social Innovation. The MA in Social Innovation provides a space for research and reflection to understand the dynamics and multiple impacts of social innovations, in order to assess and structure them more efficiently.

The interdisciplinary Master of Arts (MA) in Cultural Analysis and Social Theory (CAST) is a 12-month program that provides dynamic graduate experience in an intimate intellectual community. Our unique program brings together students with a wide variety of academic backgrounds to examine contemporary social and cultural issues while expanding and diversifying knowledge sets and developing advanced research and communication skills.

The MA Social Justice Studies is an innovative, interdisciplinary program. The program allows students to pursue a 4 FCE course based degree or, with the approval of the Social Justice Studies Committee, complete a practicum, a creative project, or a research project in lieu of the final 1 FCE of coursework. The program prepares students to work, research and advocate towards a more socially just society which values equality, solidarity and human rights and recognizes the citizenship of each human being.

The Department of History offers the opportunity for graduate study leading to the MA degree. The program’s regional specifications are Canada, Britain and its empire, and the Iberian world. Gender, legal, environmental, and indigenous histories are particular areas of strength. Students will be accepted subject to the availability of an appropriate supervisor.

The focus of the program is on the ethnic and religious identity distinctions that characterize many deep-rooted conflicts. The program explores the meaning of and generates processes for reconciliation, healing, and structural change. It combines a social science orientation common to Conflict Studies programs with a philosophical, ethical, and theological orientation. The field of specialization is ethnic and religious dimensions of conflict in Canada.

The MA in Child Studies investigates child cognition, emotion, social functioning, language, literacy, numeracy, moral development, special needs learners, and play. Education researchers also consider the critical role that families, peers, teachers, schools, inclusive practices, communities and culture play in development.

According to the January 22, 2024 IRCC news release, applicants pursing master’s and doctoral degree programs are not included in the intake cap on international student study permit applications that the Government of Canada has recently announced. IRCC noted that current study permit holders will not be affected.

The M.A. in Interdisciplinary Aging Studies (AGNG) is a thesis-based M.A. program designed to foster an understanding of key conceptual and methodological foundations of interdisciplinary aging studies, executed from both research-based and applied (e.g., experiential learning) approaches. The M.A. in Interdisciplinary Aging Studies degree offers graduate students training in social science and humanities fields related to the study of aging, including social-cultural dimensions of aging; systems, services and policy; cultural/literary studies, performance, and creative arts; social justice, especially equity, diversity and inclusion; and professional fields requiring expertise in aging.
