5 Performing Arts MA Degree Programs in Hungary

The Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies at ELTE is currently the only higher institution of education in Hungary to offer an English-language MA degree in Film Studies.

Among other courses in MA in Classical Singing, the theoretical fields to be covered include Music History, Folk Music, Contemporary Culture, Analysis, but students also visit concerts and take part in composition practices.

Besides general music theory and music history classes, the training will introduce students to the technique of choral conducting as well as to theoretical and practical issues related to the human voice, voice formation and maintenance, the history of choral music, repertoire, different styles and all the related know-how in all branches of choir music. MA in Choral Conducting and learning it at a high level requires personal skills, artistic sensitivity, having a good ear, knowledge of music and, most of all, the individual’s singing culture and knowledge about chamber music.

Our Designer- Maker MA programme enables students to become open-minded professionals who are receptive to global trends and local challenges and can provide sustainable responses through material-oriented solutions. Students can learn to use their art to make an internationally relevant positive impact, whether by creating craft-produced limited-series items or autonomous works of art intended for exhibitions and the art market. Research assignments, design studies, and studio exercises provide opportunities to participate in national and international professional events, exhibitions, and competitions and facilitate career advancement after graduation.

These programs in MA in Classical Music Performance (Piano, Violin, Flute, Guitar) are for the truly committed – for those young artists who do have the aim to be on stage regularly. In the instrumental performance classes held two times a week through four semesters the goal is to achieve: - technical abilities of a real virtuoso, - playing stability and reliability, - detailed stylistic knowledge of all major eras and genres of classical music related to the instrument studied, - an ability to shape the musical process down to the smallest nuances and shades with ease and creativity, - a fundamental respect for the composer’s instructions, put into a viable combination with the performer’s own ideas and personality.
