Key Summary

About : The M.A. International Peace Studies program focuses on the complex dynamics of peace and conflict on a global scale. It offers students a multidisciplinary understanding of the causes of conflict and the strategies necessary to promote peace. The course duration is typically one year full-time or two years part-time. Students engage in critical analysis, research, and practical experiences related to peace-building.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue various roles, including positions in non-profit organizations, government agencies, international institutions, and academia. They may work as conflict resolution specialists, peace advocates, or policy analysts, applying their knowledge to create sustainable solutions in conflict-affected areas.

The Master of Arts Degree in International Peace Studies provides an interdisciplinary and critical analysis of the causes and consequences of a wide range of contemporary conflicts and violence that impact on global, international and human security. Topics to be explored include militarization, armed conflicts, violent extremism, economic, social and gender injustices, cultural and religious identity conflicts, and competition over environmental resources. An in-depth understanding of peacebuilding and peace processes in response to these issues is built.

Student Body

The University for Peace is characterized by its diversity and multiculturalism. For 2018-2019, we have 174 students from 55 countries (166 women vs. 58 men). As a result, our campus is always full of student activities, most of them organized by the students themselves. In past years, we have had yoga classes, conversation classes in different languages, the celebration of cultural nights (Asian night, Latin night, European night, etc.), as well as institutional activities open to students (Zumba classes, academic "brown bag" lunches, etc.).
