To apply to a degree program, you will select your intended program and campus on the application form, and you will need to submit all required materials that are listed on your intended program's website. Applicants may apply to only one graduate degree program and campus at a time. If you submit more than one degree application, only your most recently submitted application will be reviewed.

      Minimum Academic Eligibility Requirements

All applicants to a Penn State graduate program must hold a degree from a degree-granting institution that is officially recognized in the country in which it operates. See below to search by country for accepted documents from institutions in that country. The degree must be one of the following types:

      • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution
      • The tertiary (postsecondary) degree that is deemed comparable to a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.

      Program Admission Requirements

Check your intended graduate program’s website for specific requirements. These may be higher or more stringent than the general Penn State graduate program requirements.

      Transcript Requirements

When applying for any graduate program, you will need to upload a scanned copy of official transcripts from institutions you attended previously. Note that there is a difference between “official” and “unofficial” transcripts, and only some documents will be accepted in the application process.

Applicants will be required to upload copies of official transcripts or documents from all post-secondary institutions attended, whether the degree was completed or not.

      English Proficiency

The language of instruction at Penn State is English. All international applicants must submit scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test, with some exceptions. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, you may be granted provisional admission until you complete certain requirements.

      • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT: overall score of at least 80 with a minimum speaking score of 19
      • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test: minimum overall band score of 6.5

There are many ways to fund your graduate education at Penn State. Graduate students work primarily with their graduate program, college, or campus to find funding opportunities. Graduate students most commonly find support through assistantships, which are awarded by graduate programs. Other funding options include fellowships, traineeships, scholarships, loans, employment, and student recognition awards. Students should work with their academic program to inquire about funding opportunities.

      Scholarships

Arts and Architecture’s units each have a variety of scholarships, and in many cases, incoming students are automatically considered for available scholarships. Some scholarships are reserved for advanced-standing students or groups, however, the College of Arts and Architecture has been blessed with numerous supporters who have created a deep pool of scholarships for individual students.

Applications and nominations are accepted at various times throughout the year, and new funding and recognition options arise regularly. Feel free to reach out to faculty and program administrators in your academic program to learn about new and upcoming scholarships.
