Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour—thinking, feeling, acting. Students of psychology study the human experience and explore the phenomena of learning, development, personality, language, emotions, memory, and social interactions. Our 4-year Psychology degree program provides broad foundational knowledge, enabling students/graduates to be more authoritative thinkers and more qualified users of psychological theory and research, while deepening their insights into their own and others' behaviour. Insights into human behaviour, thoughts, and emotions are valuable in many career paths, including social services, business, law, and education.

Our 4-year Psychology degree provides greater opportunities to more widely and deeply explore certain aspects of psychology than our 3-year program. This includes enhanced learning in statistics and research methodology. Individualized independent studies in supervised research, specialized courses in psychological assessment, along capstone courses are all more feasible within our 4-year Psychology degree.

Students considering continued/graduate studies, particularly in Psychology, either research-focused or clinical/counselling-focused, are strongly encouraged to consider this 4-year degree program or our 4-year Applied Emphasis psychology degree program.

When you come to Concordia University of Edmonton, you will master the skills, garner the knowledge, and create the connections you need to secure a job, discover the world, and build your future. Our students have been accepted into top graduate programs.

Disclaimer: International Students

Please note the 4-year major with an applied emphasis has a mandatory field placement, which requires international students to have a co-op work permit. We recommend that international students apply for their co-op work permit at least 6 months prior to their field placement start date. Please note, students will not be able to complete the field placement without a co-op work permit. This may result in a delay in program completion.

Note: the co-op work permit is a separate work authorization from the one which may appear in the study permit. Students cannot use their study permit work authorization in order to complete their co-op or internship course.

Students can visit the website of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to learn more about applying for a co-op work permit and to check processing times. Students with questions about co-op work permits should contact the International Office.
