Key Summary
This MSc propels you into the rapidly evolving field of insurance and risk. The sector needs specialists who are agile and innovative, with the ability to apply theory to real-world challenges driven by climate change, cyber threats and global uncertainty. You’ll learn in a practical, hands-on environment that develops the analytical skills to shape how society responds to emerging risks.
This MSc equips you with both technical foundations and applied skills. You will:
- Master the financial structures of insurers and their links to banks and capital markets
- Build expertise in insurance law, underwriting, claims, financial management, enterprise risk management and actuarial applications
- Gain insights into global challenges such as climate change, cyber risk and geopolitical uncertainty
- Develop a specialist focus across underwriting, broking, claims, reinsurance, loss adjusting or risk strategy.

Exempt Route (‘fast track’) course for CII Advanced Diploma holders
The Exempt Route (‘fast track’) course is available only for students who have completed the Advanced Diploma of the Chartered Insurance Institute within the last five years and who have gained their CII credits largely through CII examinations.
Students are granted exemption from four compulsory subjects: Theory of Risk and Insurance, Insurance Law and Regulation, General Insurance, Enterprise Risk Management.
The course begins in January rather than September and runs for 8 months (full-time version) or 20 months (part-time version*).
The MSc Insurance and Risk Management equips you with the skills and connections for careers across insurance and wider finance sectors locally and globally.
Graduates have secured roles as Claims Specialist, Broker/Senior Broker, Trainee Underwriter, Risk Manager, Reinsurance Broker, and Loss Adjuster at employers including Zurich, Gallagher Re, WTW, American Express, Howden, Allianz, and LCP.
Students also benefit from alumni panels, industry and office visits, careers fairs, industry overviews, guest speakers, company presentations, and workshops.
