The Department was established in the university in 1986. It started with three sections: Islamic Law (Sharia), Religion Foundations and Islamic Education. As education is linked to the requirements of the job market, the Sharia and Religious Foundations Sections were suspended in 1991, while the Islamic Education section continued. The Department focused its efforts on providing highly qualified cadres in the fields of education and academic research. The Department strategy agrees with the general strategy of the College to prepare professional teachers and qualify specialists educationally and pedagogically. The Department applies this strategy through its annual executive plans, active participation in academic research and community service. In 2011 the Master's degree program in Islamic Education was launched in the department.

The translation program helps students to master the intellectual and scientific aspects of translation. It prepares students to become professional translators and interpreters. The program aims at fulfilling the following learning objectives: Demonstrate good control of the four basic language skills for acquiring and exchanging information; Acquire knowledge of concepts, current issues, and research methods in Linguistics and Translation; Translate different types of texts from English into Arabic and vice versa; Apply knowledge and principles of translation in order to be professional translators and interpreters in collaboration with the community; Use knowledge of the various linguistic systems to perform efficiently oral and written communicative acts within social contexts; Perform translation and interpretation using the latest technology; Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of language’s role in promoting social and cross-cultural understanding.
