7 Naturopathy Doctoral Degree Programs

Naturopathic Medicine is a comprehensive system of health care within the complementary and integrative medicine world that incorporates many modalities.

The doctor of naturopathic medicine (NMD) program at the University of Western States (UWS) prepares students to take a holistic and individualized approach to health and healing and integrates the principles of functional medicine throughout the naturopathic program. Graduates learn to consider the whole person including the patient’s diet, lifestyle, environment, genetics, physical, mental and emotional health, as well as other factors that influence health and well-being.

The naturopathic doctor (ND) degree program integrates both scientific and holistic viewpoints in a rigorous, science-based natural medicine curriculum. The program includes more than 4,100 hours of didactic and clinical instruction.

Boucher’s full-time four-year program includes approximately 4,800 hours of class and preceptor time. It includes approximately 1,200 hours of clinical training, culminating in the professional Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine designation.

Both the terms "natural medicine" and "doctor" are historical Traditional Native American terms. Native American Medicine (NAM) is a spiritually based system of healing. Traditional Native "natural doctors" practised prayer, ceremony, herbs, heat, cold, dietary, healing sounds, music, touch, water, lithotherapy, smoke, sound therapy, fasting, bone setting, and counselling. These modalities were all applied within the context of spiritual practice.

Our naturopathic medicine degree program prepares graduates with the skills to thrive in a complex healthcare landscape. Students at NUNM learn a broader range of medical skills than any other naturopathic medical school, including experience with transgender medicine and end-of-life processes.

The concentration in Integrated Medicine is a specialized program developed for the student seeking an advanced comprehensive education based on the philosophy of natural and integrated medicine.
