20 Humanities Doctoral Degree Programs

University of Lodz Doctoral School of Humanities provides support and guidance to those seeking a PhD in Humanities that prepare dissertations in the following disciplines: Archaeology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Literary studies, Cultural and religious studies, Art Studies, Ethnology, and cultural anthropology (since the academic year 2024/2025).

The Humanities and Social Sciences doctoral programme is a joint programme for all of the social science and humanities subjects offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Work, the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, the Academy of Music, the Faculty of Theology, and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. The programme emphasises the connection between study and research, cooperation among institutions, the European mobility of students and teachers, and the development of interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to study and research.

The human sciences underline the importance and value of the analysis of the human being from an integrated historical, philosophical, and artistic perspective. Through an in-depth examination of world history, politics, religion, philosophy and art. Students in this research course should investigate how perspectives influence each other. Art is perceived as the expression of historical events and ideas governing a particular era. History is recognized as the confrontation between ideas, society and politics and their evolution. The ideas that characterize an epoch derive from the analysis of previous philosophical failures. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts degree in the Departments of Behavioral Sciences, Bible and Ancient Near-Eastern Studies, Hebrew Language, Hebrew Literature, History, and Philosophy.

The Arts and humanities is a dynamic interplay between theory and practice. The School provides expert supervision across the spectrum of art and writing practice, art and design history and theory, curating, and criticism. We welcome proposals for theoretical and practice-led projects, industrial collaborations, and technologically focused research.

PhD in research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis.
