This Master’s degree provides a methodological toolbox for disease control; it includes epidemiology, statistics, GIS, and meta-analysis, as well as practical, hands-on experience. Disease prevention plays a vital role in improving international health and welfare, including areas such as human rights, justice, and gender equality.

The Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) is an international program with a clear focus on health systems strengthening and improving disease prevention and control. The scope of the MPH concerns resource-constrained settings and vulnerable populations. The aim of the MPH is to enhance the student’s capacity to face current challenges such as the achievement of Universal Health Coverage, the organization of health care for infectious and non-communicable diseases, the control and elimination of (neglected) tropical diseases, the preparedness for disease outbreaks and the response to sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents, and to health inequities in general.

Public health is the science that aims to improve populations' health by designing and taking measures to prevent disease and protect and promote health and wellbeing. The COVID-19 pandemic and climate change have led to the importance of public health receiving greater recognition. Our new Public Health BSc equips you with a range of practical skills and knowledge which could be applied to a range of careers, particularly those in public health, aiming to improve and protect the health of individuals, communities and populations.

This course brings together theory and practice, offering an in-depth exploration of health promotion and control strategies. Engage with KIT staff and distinguished guest lecturers and experts from diverse organisations, ensuring a holistic perspective on health systems approaches to health promotion and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

The HSP track combines cutting-edge interdisciplinary research with practical policy questions, aiming to solve complex public health problems related to societal issues like an ageing population, increasing levels of chronic diseases, widening health inequalities, migration and urbanization. You learn to tackle issues like these from various academic disciplines, as you are taught and supervised by experts in economics, spatial sciences, psychology, sociology, and medicine. The track is a small-scale selective programme that is embedded within the research master Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology (CPE) and is an initiative of the University Medical Center Groningen and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health.

The MSc programme in Parasitology and Pathogen Biology is designed for students seeking training in parasite-borne infectious diseases that severely undermine: human health in the developing world and tropics; agri-food production systems globally (including plant health and animal health and welfare).

This Master's Degree in Ophthalmological Subspecialties has been designed in response to the evolution of diseases related to the eyes and their pathologies, which has become a growing trend as a consequence of our work, social and life habits. It is aimed at graduates in Medicine and Surgery who have completed their specialty in Ophthalmology and wish to study in depth specific areas related to ophthalmology and achieve a master's degree in the prevention, diagnosis and medical, surgical or rehabilitative management of diseases in each of the different subspecialties.

The short course “Hospital-based Interventions to Contain Antibiotic Resistance in Low-resource Settings (AIM)” is a 3-week course that offers interdisciplinary and interactive training on relevant aspects of antibiotic resistance and its containment at the hospital level. The course focuses on hospitals because they concentrate on the illest and vulnerable patients; in addition, they are hotbeds of healthcare-acquired infections, act as referral sites for difficult-to-treat infections, and host trainees and postgraduate educational programs. The short-course consists of a common track and 3 specific tracks on Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS), Infection Prevention & Control (IPC), and Microbiological Surveillance (MS) in the hospital setting. These are closely linked key components in the successful containment of antibiotic resistance.

This 3-week course is mainly for clinicians, health system and program managers, decision-makers, and researchers who are, or have been, involved in outbreak investigations and want to be able to identify and appraise research needs and opportunities and to develop and support research as part of the outbreak response. The course aims to enhance the specific skills needed to design and implement multi- and interdisciplinary outbreak investigations with a particular focus on relevant research before, during, and after acute phases of outbreaks.

The Master of Science in Applied Biomedicine(MSc-ABM), perhaps the first program of its kind in Asia, has a critical role in light of the recent pandemic and future healthcare crises. The MSc-ABM equips students with skills to combat emerging infectious diseases, develop vaccines and immunotherapies, and design drugs.
