7 Education Research Course Programs

The Academic Research Internship program aims to provide a flexible tailor-made framework. Students from diverse academic backgrounds, both undergraduate and graduate, can conduct their internship within BGU and outside of the university, through practical work assignments and experience. The first step is to find a host with research interests that match your academic background and goals. An internship can be conducted in all 6 BGU faculties, in all fields of research.

Understand and re-imagine education as a vital social process that extends far beyond schools. In education studies, you will delve into the sociology, political economy, cultural foundations, philosophy and history of education. Gain practical experience in educational settings and through study abroad, plus conduct original research through our two-semester senior capstone.

The Bi-College Education Studies major is built around four mutually-informing pursuits: teacher preparation; the interdisciplinary study of learning; the investigation of the politics of schooling; and students' growth as reflective facilitators, learners, researchers. Students who complete one of the Education major options are prepared to collaborate, act, research, reflect, and work to challenge and transform oppressive educational systems into joyful and just ones. In keeping with the philosophy of the program, each course includes a field experience—from two hours each week to full-time practice teaching—through which students learn to integrate academic and experiential knowledge.

Education Studies is the exploration of areas related to education, and the Wabash Department of Education Studies offers a program that both prepares those headed toward a career in the classroom, and explores the big questions of educational philosophy, policy, history, and practice. Those questions, and their answers, lie at the heart of the liberal arts, engaging students in dialog related to human educational development and educational systems. Such flexibility is an attractive option for students in any major, allowing for critical thought on practical topics.

The Pitching Research Matters course has been designed for research-enabled students or novice researchers who may be feeling frustrated, lost, or even overwhelmed at the beginning of a research journey. The educational studies major will provide you with the opportunity to study the discipline of education as it relates to other liberal arts disciplines. Educational studies fosters within students a deep understanding of the complexity of education and schooling as well as an ability to think critically about the ways in which education intersects with a broad range of social, cultural, political and economic forces.
