The faculty in Education invites Occidental's best and brightest to "be the change" by complementing a major course of study with an Education minor. The minor in Education will prepare students to address the complex challenges and issues related to education in our nation's evolving urban school communities. Students will learn to think clearly and analytically about schooling, pedagogy, educational policy and practice in a variety of school- and community-based educational settings.

Educational/Professional Canadian Cultural Competence + Study Skills and Resource Management/Navigation + Time Usage + Reflective and Motivational Strategies. A variety of active learning methods are used in economics classes. Film, class discussion, and multi-media presentations help engage students in active learning. Economics provides a strong insight into the economic and public policy environment in which virtually every profession, such as finance, journalism and health care, will be pursued.

The Bi-College Education Studies major is built around four mutually-informing pursuits: teacher preparation; the interdisciplinary study of learning; the investigation of the politics of schooling; and students' growth as reflective facilitators, learners, researchers. Students who complete one of the Education major options are prepared to collaborate, act, research, reflect, and work to challenge and transform oppressive educational systems into joyful and just ones. In keeping with the philosophy of the program, each course includes a field experience—from two hours each week to full-time practice teaching—through which students learn to integrate academic and experiential knowledge.
