The Animation Fundamentals Citation introduces students to the process of creating traditional and computer animation. In the program, you'll learn and practice animation techniques through hands-on exercises. You'll also gain new skills in drawing for animation, design, animation principles and digital animation. At the Nat & Flora Bosa Centre for Film and Animation, you'll have access to top-quality gear, including drawing tablets and high-end graphics workstations, while receiving mentorship from your instructors, who are experienced animators.

Interested in a career in animation, multimedia, or game design and development? Join our Animation and Game Art program and learn to use industry-standard traditional and digital visual development methodologies, computer software, and hardware technology. Students will graduate with a firm foundation in the visual arts.

The Minor in Animation & Motion Media is designed to give you a solid foundation in the conceptual and technical aspects of animation and motion media art. Furthermore, it offers you a set of elective courses that allow you to explore the rich field of animation, experimental motion media, gaming, digital video special effects and more. It is important that you meet with the department chair initially to help you map out the best set of elective courses that fits your interests and abilities.

Storytelling is at the heart of animation, which brings worlds and characters to life. The Animation emphasis within CCS’s Entertainment Arts program explores both the theoretical and the technical sides of character performance, design, story and world-building in a mixed visual medium. Through courses and mentorships with faculty—many of whom currently work in the animation industry-you’ll build an understanding of the production pipeline for feature and television animation, games and advertising.

Are you an animation fanatic? The kind of person who hates waking up to an alarm clock for school but can always jump out of bed for Saturday morning cartoons? Does “taking notes” in class mean constantly doodling and day-dreaming about far-away fantasy worlds and colourful characters? If so, 2D Animation & Digital Art is the program for you!

The Animation Minor focuses on facilitating the development of original creators in the conceptualization and creation of digital and analog forms of expression in graphically created motion art works, be it an animated short, transmedia exploration, spreadable media, narrative sequential art, gallery installation, or one of the many other applications of motion art.

The UFSC Animation Program was established in 2015, but its history dates back to 2009, when the Bachelor’s in Design in Animation was created. It was proposed after a study about the ongoing program, whose conclusion was that, seen as an area of Design, Animation was losing expressiveness. A commission was then assigned to carry out a further study for the restructuring of the degree.

This eight-month graduate certificate program will allow you to study 3D computer-based modelling and animation using high-end computer workstations, software and tools. You will learn the principles of animation to develop and master your knowledge of lighting, texturing and rendering, and fundamental elements of 3D animation.  

The student shall make at least one minute of completed animation in a chosen technique or a combination of techniques. A shorter project may be accepted if it is made in classic 2D animation. No complete narrative is required, but the student shall through the work show skills and knowledge beyond a basic level in the chosen animation technique. The student takes part in an animation project related to the animation industry. It might be an advertising film, music video, a title sequence, a pilot for a program/series etc. The project can be made within the school or with an external producer/studio or as part of international exchange at an education partner abroad. The project must be accepted by the teacher in charge.

Through the course, the students will immerse themselves in an animation technique of their choice: 2D, stop-motion or 3D computer animation. The subject mainly consists of group work where the task is to make a short film using the self-wading technique. The students first develop an idea and production plan, before starting the production itself. Through the work with the film production, which will be guided by subject teachers, the students will receive in-depth training in the animation technique they have chosen. There will be teaching sessions to support this training.

This program Animation and Game Development allows students to connect with their passion of playing video games and watching computer-generated media and animation by challenging students with cutting-edge development for a variety of mediums.

In this innovative three-year advanced diploma program, you will immerse yourself in a creative environment to attain skills and knowledge in both traditional and digital animation. As you learn to draw storyboards, design scenes and animate characters, you will practice applying theories of motion, timing, storytelling and digital technology to produce high-quality animations and designs.
