The COS program provides highly interdisciplinary training to educate researchers to use advanced computational and data methodologies to solve complex scientific and engineering problems. It provides a unified approach to modeling, high-performance computing and data science, and artificial intelligence-based approaches. Through modeling, simulation, machine learning, and studying specific phenomena, the program delivers cross-disciplinary knowledge and domain-specific depth in fields like fundamental computational physics, climate modeling, computational fluid dynamics, computational biology, materials science, computational economics, and digital cultural heritage. The program provides the necessary educational setting where excellence in education and research is fostered through interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Computer Science program covers the foundations of the field in theory and practice, including the interaction between hardware and software, the human-computer interface, and the social and economic significance of information technology. The program emphasizes the flexible knowledge and skills required in a fast-changing industry, so that students are able to appropriately evaluate, design, maintain, and upgrade systems.

The doctorate degree in Computing/Computer Science provides the future Ph.D. holders with the necessary skills and abilities to become successful academics demonstrating an excellence in research and making a significant contribution to the local and international research community in the field of Computing/Computer Science. Through a minimum of a 3 years period, candidates develop critical thinking, formulate their own opinions, acquire research culture, and become autonomous researchers able to plan, develop, implement and coordinate research studies as well as reason and present their findings to the international scientific community.

The program provides advanced knowledge of all important fields of Computer Science, such as modern networks, database systems, algorithms and complexity and software engineering, enabling the student to delve in at least one of them.

The primary aim of our BSc programme in Computing and Information Technology is firstly to educate students to analyze, design, integrate, and manage information systems using information technology, and secondly to prepare students for a successful career as I.T. professionals who make a positive contribution to society. We do so in full cognizance of Philips University’s aims to develop students who value honesty, civility, and the dignity of work. At the same time, we hope to give students an enjoyable learning experience, enhanced by an innovative pedagogical approach.
