Then the Master's in Classics and Ancient Civilizations with its two distinct specializations – Classics and Ancient Studies – may be the program for you.

The MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations offers a broad approach to Antiquity, with the integration of classical languages and ancient cultural history. Our faculty have strong expertise in a wide range of subjects, they provide excellent teaching: in fact, two of the staff members were elected Lecturer of the Year. We are a master with an internationally orientated research climate, and a relatively small and friendly community, that is part of a vibrant university city with many international students.

Our Liberal Arts and Sciences program offers students the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects whilst developing specialist knowledge in their major discipline (Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences). Throughout the degree, students will work in interdisciplinary teams on a series of projects that take them outside of the classroom. This will enable students to learn how to apply a creative approach to finding solutions for complex global challenges.

The MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Classics offers a broad approach to Antiquity through the integration of classical languages and ancient cultural history. We have strong expertise in Hellenistic literature, Greek linguistics, Greek religion, Latin poetry of the early Empire, and Literature in its spatial and socio-cultural context. The Classics and Ancient Civilizations (Research) master's at Leiden University covers the entire range of present-day research on the civilisations of Greece and Rome, Egypt and the Ancient Near East.

The master Classics and Ancient Civilizations consists of two tracks:

The MA Classics and Ancient Civilizations at Leiden University covers the entire range of present-day research on the civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, Syria and Palestine, Greece and the Roman Empire. In chronological terms, the program covers thousands of years, from the early origins of Egyptian and Sumerian societies down to the world of Greece and Rome, including its modern reception from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century.

The Classics track is a highly flexible interdisciplinary one-year Program, offering a variety of research-led courses on Greek and Latin literature, language and culture.
