The Criminology major is designed to prepare students for beginning professional work in criminal justice and to provide preparation for graduate work including law school. Criminology courses at the undergraduate level include the integration of theoretical and applied materials of an interdisciplinary nature. The corrections option is designed for students interested in careers in probation, parole, correctional institutions, and other affiliated forms of work.

RWU’s interdisciplinary Criminal Justice program combines courses in policing, corrections and procedure with studies in the social sciences to introduce you to the theory and practice of criminal law and the moral complexity of the criminal justice system.

The Department of Criminal Justice at Plymouth State University aims to serve students interested in careers in law enforcement, court administration, corrections, juvenile services, and graduate or law school. Boasting four unique concentrations, the criminal justice program invites you to tailor your studies to Juvenile and Family Justice, Law Enforcement Administration and Criminal Investigations, Law and Society, or Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The Bachelor of Applied Arts in Justice Studies takes your career in the justice system full circle. The first two years of this four-year degree program are completed by taking either the Correctional Studies, Criminal Justice – Policing, or Child and Youth Care diploma or through an accepted transfer program.

In our increasingly complex world, criminals and criminal organizations are more sophisticated than ever. Along with so-called traditional activities — such as drug trafficking, street crime and extortion — they also employ computers and the Internet to threaten our security.

The study of criminal justice provides an interdisciplinary perspective on deviance, crime and the criminal justice system. It enables students to understand how deviance and crime are defined and interpreted, to understand the parts of the criminal justice system and their respective roles, to develop a theoretical understanding of deviance and crime, and investigate ethical issues related to the criminal justice system.
