Physics is the natural science that studies matter and its motion and behavior through space and time, and that studies the related entities of energy and force. Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, and its main goal is to understand how the universe behaves.

Physics is a field of study which explores the principles of nature. It is an important academic field that provides the foundation for many applied sciences. The research subjects extend over a very wide range: from the most basic particles constituting matter (elementary particles), to atoms and molecules, liquids and solids which are composed of atoms and molecules, and the structure of the universe.

Since the establishment of the Tokyo Butsurigaku Koshujo (Tokyo Academy of Physics), 135 years ago, the Department of Physics has constantly taken the lead in education and research at the Tokyo University of Science, the philosophy of which is the "advancement of science," while firmly maintaining meritocracy

The purpose of the educational program is to train highly qualified teachers of physics, with high social and civic responsibility, able to carry out professional activities.

Based on the description of the kind of individuals that the university seeks to nurture provided in the “school philosophy” of Kyoto Sangyo University, the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science aims to cultivate high-level professionals with the fundamentals of physics, acquired through theory and experiment, as well as the ability to understand and elucidate physical phenomenon from the macroscopic scale to the microscopic scale, and the ability to respond flexibly to various real-world issues.

The Physics Course has a systematically composed curriculum that nurtures and reinforces the students' knowledge and understanding, starting from the basics and then advanced ones. Theories and experiments are closely associated with physics, therefore in addition to lectures, subjects involving seminars and experiments are carefully arranged in the curriculum. Also, in addition to practical learning with computers, logical thinking capabilities are nurtured so the students acquire basic skills in both hardware and software to become a scientist or an engineer. Fourth-year students are supervised their graduation researches by teachers in specialized fields. These students can experience the most up-to-date research through seminars and experiments carried out in the research laboratories and interact with teachers and graduate students. Possibly the fourth year would become the most fruitful in the students' university life.

The physics department is a small department with sixteen faculty members and roughly two hundred students. The department is well known for its highly qualified education and research activities. There are eight independent research groups in the department. Each group, which is the core of our research, consists of a professor and an assistant professor as well as graduate and undergraduate students.

Students in the Department of Electrical, Information and Physics Engineering, starting from a grounding in electrical, communications, electronic, and information engineering as well as in applied physics, engage in research in such areas as the supply and use of electrical energy, next-generation information, and communications systems, functional materials and devices making use of nanotechnologies, the application of electronics technologies to medical care and welfare, electric vehicles, intelligent robots, and plasma engine for outer space vehicles. Through their studies and experiences, they obtain the necessary research ability and knowledge for becoming leaders as core and specialized engineers.

The scientific and pedagogical activity of the institute is aimed at solving urgent problems related to the theory and methodology of teaching mathematics, physics, and computer science, as well as the introduction of new information and communication technologies in the education system.

This major is a provincial-level professional comprehensive reform pilot major. It has 5 teaching experiment platforms, 3 engineering training sharing platforms; 1 student science and technology practice innovation center (teacher skill training center) and physics teacher skill learning club; it has multiple teaching practice bases in the Pearl River Delta region. After the implementation of the comprehensive reform of the college entrance examination, the employment demand for graduates of this major has increased significantly.

The Department of Physics Education teaches students in-depth both physics and pedagogy in order to cultivate outstanding teachers with professional knowledge in physics and desirable teacher awards. Our department has 85 undergraduate students, 22 graduate schools and 42 graduate schools of education. In addition, 7 professors are actively conducting research related to physics and pedagogy and are working hard to cultivate human resources. Our department provides consistent education in all areas from 1st to 4th grade, and we focus on gaining in-depth knowledge through various subjects in our major and to grow into a professional teacher through pedagogy classes. In addition, we are cultivating excellent teachers through various methods such as character education that allows students to have the right teaching intuition. We teach a wide range of specialized knowledge, experiments, and research methods so that we can work as excellent talents in a wide range of fields of society, as well as teachers, by accumulating various experiences before entering society.

The educational program aims to prepare in high demand, competitive and highly qualified teachers who are fluent in English, with all kinds of competencies necessary for the labor market in education, skilled in modern teaching methods, ICT technologies, and who can assess and analyze the current state of the industry.

Students who major in physics when passed the second year with GPA of 4 or GPA greater than 4 are eligible to attend B.Sc. (Honours) class specialized in meteorology for three more years. After finished successfully, they earn B.Sc. (Hons) degree specializing in meteorology. The module covers the Sinusoidal steady-state response of circuits, and Thevenin and Norton theorems.

The graduate can work as a programmer and specialist in the field of modern IT technologies, automation, circuitry, and robotics, in computer and information services of government bodies, at industrial enterprises, in financial organizations, research institutions, educational institutions, commercial companies.
