The Master’s degree in Astrophysics and Cosmology aims to provide students with a comprehensive, up-to-date view of the main fields of modern Astrophysics, including astronomical detectors and techniques, black holes and neutron stars, cosmology, gravitational physics, planets, stars, and galaxies. Particular emphasis is placed on a solid background in Physics and the growing ties among Astrophysics and different branches of Physics in the coming era of multi-messenger observations.

The Astronomy Associates of Science Degree program is intended to provide a solid background for STEM students to pursue further studies in astronomy and astrophysics. Most of the courses in this program are aligned with the requirements for transfer to baccalaureate institutions and are designed to apply towards higher degrees in the astronomical sciences.

The Associate of Science Degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to specific science majors at four-year colleges or universities. Students pursuing this degree are required to select a field of specialization from an approved list and will be assigned a TCC advisor to understand specialization requirements. Astronomy is a field of specialization at TCC. You can prepare for a future career in astronomy or physics. TCC offers courses that cover the first two years of a typical four-year college astronomy or physics program. Students will earn an Associate of Science Track 2 (AS-T Track 2) degree to enter a four-year college or university.

In the track in Astronomy and Space Physics, you can study a broad range of topics from the physics of the Sun and solar system to stellar and galactic structure and evolution, as well as high energy astrophysics and cosmology.

Taking advantage of generations of terrestrial and space-based instruments, the Master of Astronomy and Astrophysics trains students to study the origin, structure, and evolution of planets, stars, star systems, and the universe itself.

The Bachelor of Science in Astronomy program prepares students for graduate school, a career in research or teaching, or employment in industry, business, or education fields where analytical skills and scientific background are advantageous.

The program offers training in theoretical physics, astronomy, and astrophysics. The graduate acquires a wide range of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in solving difficult physical problems. A graduate of astronomy gains also experimental skills, all graduates manage a variety of numerical and computational methods. In addition to mathematical methods, graduates also get a physical intuition that is extremely important in scientific research and for the solution of unexpected technical obstacles and problems.

The MSc in Astronomy was awarded the 'Top Rated Program' label (Higher Education Guide 2017), and our faculty is the home of the 2016 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, Ben Feringa, and the Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Frits Zernike. We provide excellent facilities, in an international and vibrant research environment, and we make specialization on instrumentation and informatics possible. We also maintain close connections with ASTRON and SRON.

The Department, like almost all physics departments in Italy, lives in symbiosis with the most important Italian research organizations (CNR, INFN, INAF, ...). Its activity is also in close connection with the LENS (European Laboratory of Non-Linear Spectroscopy): an infrastructure of excellence, unique in Italy, which is also located on the campus.
